The Night’s Wings

I left Walden Pond
and met you near the wood
you stood between
the moss and morning
in the shadow of the crest

there was a moment
one moment
where I could sense
more than I could see
my vision altered
by the pure completeness
I felt in loving thee

what sense- this sensibility?
worth a mere mortals thought-
if timelessness
not past through
with life’s full measure
left unsought

most travelers find no rest –
on such a road
without formal bedding
said I to the Raven –
“Call the night,
and this forest becomes my heaven.”

Beautiful. I love the quiet voice. I see the “you” in the poem as the night, the forest, and/or the beauty. Of course, it could be a person, but I like thinking of it as an expression of love to the night. I don’t know why I want to think that. I have nothing against love poems involving people…lol.

The delicate lines are wonderful. These really jumped out:

    “you stood between
    the moss and morning
in the shadow of the crest”

And the second stanza is also fantastic. I love the altered vision. It becomes better as it is altered. What a wonderful twist. Thank you for sharing these lovely words.

You are right Julie it is not a person – it is the forest. Growing up surrounded by woods it was always there I could find peace, solitude and let my imagation take over. It is amazing how our childhood’s effect the way each of us write. I always look forward to your input. As always much appreciation.

great moment, and you are right for posting it again. i am thankful and ashamed. thankful for you taking me to travel into past i have not seen (or seen in other times) and shamed (somehow, no worried it is not yet too bad) for not taking this trip myself. i usualy try to get a bit back in new blogs i encounter and like, get bigger picture and enjoy things i came too late to see when i first came, but still so many things, and some get away, so i am happy you chose that.

dyhan, thank you for reading- this one is one that is close to my heart and am happy you took the time to read it. There are lots of moments in life – but only a few when we sense something beyond our natural sight – those are the moments we remember, those are moments we write about.

    blessings to you

I’m so glad you decided to re-post this poem, as I missed it before. These lines touched me:

    there was a moment
    one moment
    where I could sense
    more than I could see
    my vision altered
    by the pure completeness
    I felt in loving thee

I treasure those moments and long for them to reappear. They are but appetizers for the feast to come.

Bless you for sharing your marvelous gift of writing.

Thank you Karen, we all have those moments when we melt into that moment and become one with our surroundings. You must have them when you are out in nature and find the perfect subject and conditions to capture the moment on photo. This moments are truly a blessing and draw us closer to our Creator.

      Blessings —-

i like it and it reminds me of a poem i wrote myself only mine did not include a forest – i like strangeness sometimes because it keeps me focused on Him
