Memo to: Me and My Inner Voice
Date: 4/18/08
Conference call time: 7:00 PM
Attendance Mandatory

With the technology today we can communicate with virtually anyone around the world at all times of day or night. Except for the most remote areas of the planet we can virtually hear and see in real time the joy and the horrors as they happen.

A conference call with participates in China, Europe, South America and Canada can take place with ease and let us no forget those dialing in while orbiting the earth. However, to set up a conference call with your own inner voice well, it is unheard of; though some may take the time they are not willing to openly acknowledge that they do. For most is as remote a chance as having communication with alien life in a distance galaxy. Reasoning behind not making the call may be time, inconvenience or just outright skepticism; but the inner voice can be ignored only for so long, it is persistent and a purposeful force and the longer we tell it to “just be quiet” or “go back to your room, we’ll talk later” the harder it is to get a clear line of communication going. In fact all lines of communication may just shut down while at work, at home, or even on a so called vacation.

Pooh, Piglet, and Rabbit were lost in the woods. Every time they tried to find their way home they went around in circles and ended up back at the sand pit. Benjamin Holt, The Tao of Pooh

“Operator I need to speak with my inner voice, there is something terribly wrong”

The line goes dead, call terminated. The next voice we communicate with is a doctor or therapist as we ask now did we get here. “It’s your heart” or “You need serious rest and relaxation.”

Like Pooh, Piglet, and Rabbit we go around in circles day in and out searching for our way home—

How would it be,? said Pooh slowly, ” as soon as we’re out of sight of this pit, we try to find it again?”
“What’s the good of that?” said Rabbit.
“Well”, said Pooh, “we keep looking for Home and not finding it, so I thought that if we looked for this Pit, we’d be sure not to find it, which would be a Good Thing, because then we might find something we weren’t looking for, which might be just what we were looking for, really.”
And, once again they found their way home.

Maybe that home is within us.

Stop, listen – take some scheduled time each week to speak with your inner voice, with your soul self – in a walk with nature, in mediation, in prayer —

It is amazing what the two of you can find out about each other.
It is amazing what the two of you can accomplish in building a better world.
